According to Microsoft, the goal of the new service is to reduce the complications that occur from utilizing several security products across multiple devices and operating systems.
For example, someone might use one antivirus and ransomware protection service on their Windows PC, but another on their iPhone, and yet another on their Android tablet to guard against the same types of threats.
Microsoft, on the other hand, says that this dispersed strategy is causing security flaws by making comprehensive oversight nearly impossible.
“People frequently use numerous security tools, with distributed security monitoring and device management, to help keep their data private and devices secure. “This fragmentation makes keeping up with the growing number of online threats even more difficult,” said Vasu Jakkal, CVP for Security Compliance, Identity, and Management.
“By bringing together current technologies in a new way, we must evolve our security solutions to satisfy distinct client needs at home and at work.”
While some customers rely only on Microsoft security products, Microsoft recognizes that many others prefer services from firms such as Norton and McAfee. As a result, the Microsoft Defender for Individuals interface now includes support for third-party products.
The program also pledges to expand default Windows malware defenses to all devices, albeit it will not replace existing measures.
Microsoft commented, “We’re happy to take this step forward in our continuous commitment to security for all.” “The launch of Microsoft Defender is just the beginning of Microsoft’s commitment to helping you and your family secure your digital lives with reliable technology.”
Microsoft Defender for Individuals is currently accessible for anyone with a Microsoft 365 Family or Personal subscription, with further capabilities (such as identity theft protection) coming later.
